Training & Capacity Building

Climate and water issues are urgent, but solutions are often more accessible than people think. Acacia Water feels a strong responsibility to deploy its expertise there where the urgency is highest. We do this, by spreading our knowledge through training courses, workshops and seminars.

Our work centres around long-term solutions through capacity building, with the down-to-earth principle: don’t give a person a fish, but teach how to fish. We do this by ensuring that local partners are in charge of water management and can operate independently. In this way we aim to ensure real impact in the long term.

Reducing CO2 Emissions: Model Study of Innovative Peatland Rewetting

In a feasibility study, Acacia Water surveyed the extent to which a drip infiltration system (DIS) can contribute to the rewetting of peat soils and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This modeling study shows the effect of different DIS variants on groundwater levels, soil moisture, temperature, and emissions.

Nature-based Solutions for a Climate-Resilient Geul River Valley

Nature-based solutions (NbS) can reduce the likelihood of droughts and floods. For the river basin of the Geul in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, the effects of 10 landscape interventions were modeled using the SWAT+ model (Soil and Water Assessment Tool Plus).

Enhancing Flood Resilience in South Sudan

South Sudan has faced prolonged and severe flooding for over many years, To strengthen the communities’ resilience to climate-related disasters, a feasibility assessment was conducted, identifying robust, evidence-based, and community-informed investments.
