Research and Development
In order to align our projects to long-term sustainable solutions we also work on Research and Development (R&D). In a world where climate change is clearly affecting the water cycle and water demand is growing. Therefore we appointed 4 themes we believe contribute to good and fair water-stewardship and remain relevant far in the future.
Data4Impact: Achieving sustainable impact with water solutions requires ongoing assessment of their effectiveness through impact monitoring.
Salinization: In coastal zones longer periods of droughts, rising sea levels and land subsidence increase salinization of surface and groundwater. This requires water smart solutions for water users.
Management of the unsaturated zone: The water present in the soil above the groundwater tells us a lot about the hydrological system. Growing a better understanding this unsaturated zone is essential. With this knowledge effective measures can be developed to preserve soil life and plant growth. Examples include drip irrigation to protect peat soil and archaeology, and limiting drought stress.
Sustainable Water Markets: Water is still undervalued, while in many areas water demand is rising and availability is decreasing. This leads to tough decisions now, or in the future. We support decisions leading to a fair water distribution.
