Data Analysis & Models

All our analyses start with establishing a foundation of facts, collected from multiple data sources: field research, reliable databases, remote sensing etc. The data processing and analysis phase only starts when that foundation is in place.

Models are an essential part of our working method: different models are used as tools and fit a question. We use existing models and create models ourselves: from ‘simple analytical’ to our own model codes. The right model leads us to the most practical solution and validates the results in the long term.

Yemen faces declining agricultural productivity and rising malnutrition of people due to an extreme pressure on water resources. A basin-wide SWAT model (Soil Water Assessment Tool) was developed and provides a first estimate of the water balance and key hydrological processes.

In a feasibility study, Acacia Water surveyed the extent to which a drip infiltration system (DIS) can contribute to the rewetting of peat soils and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This modeling study shows the effect of different DIS variants on groundwater levels, soil moisture, temperature, and emissions.
