Biosafor

The BIOSAFOR research project is investigating the potential of biosaline agro forestry from the choice of the right trees, to an optimized management and the development of economical feasible value chains.


It is a joint research project of nine research institutes from the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Germany, India, Pakistan, Spain and the United Arab Emirates financed by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme.

Acacia Water is responsible for the groundwater aspects of the project. Within the project all the groundwater resources are being mapped, both in terms of quantity and quality, for salt-affected areas in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The saline Groundwater is now suitable for drinking water. Acacia Water and Dhaka University, in partnership with UNICEF and DPHE conducted the action research on managed aquifer recharge in the coastal plain of Bangladesh from 2009-2011.
